Recyclable materials placed in clear or blue transparent bags are picked up biweekly throughout the year. You can place as many bags of recyclable items as you wish at the curb on collection day.
You can view the Town’s 2026 Waste Collection Calendar for specific pick-up dates and the Zone map. Please have your recycling at the curb for waste pick up by 6 a.m. on your designated collection day.
What Can Be Recycled?
For a full list of ‘Accepted’ items that can be recycled as part of the curbside waste collection program, please scroll to the bottom of the page and click the list.
Please do not place glass, styrofoam, plastic bags or lids (except recyclable plastic or tin can lids) in your recycling.
Extended Producer Responsibility
Responsibility for collection of recyclable materials at the curb in Ponoka has transferred to a new non-profit organization called Circular Materials.
The change, which is taking place in municipalities across the province, is the result of new provincial Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) legislation and regulations in Alberta. EPR shifts the responsibility for recycling from municipalities to producers of single-use packaging and paper products to encourage these businesses to find new innovative ways to recycle materials and reduce waste.
With the transition to Circular Materials, residents in the Town of Ponoka should not notice any changes to the curbside recycling program.
Recyclable materials will continue to be picked up by the contractor, E360S, biweekly throughout the year in accordance with the existing collection schedule. Residents should continue to place recyclables in clear or blue transparent bags at the curb each week with no changes.
For more information about recycling in Alberta and the transition to EPR, visit Alberta.ca/extended-producer-responsibility or contact Circular Materials by email at customerservice@circularmaterials.ca or call 1-877-667-2626.
