Town of Ponoka Council Meeting Highlights - March 10, 2026

Regular Meeting of Council: 

7.1      CP-21 Travel and Subsistence Reimbursement Amendment

Council approved a motion to bring the CP-21 Travel and Subsistence Reimbursement Policy Amendment to the next Priorities and Initiatives Committee Meeting for review. The purpose of the Travel and Subsistence Reimbursement Policy is to provide a framework for the fair and equitable reimbursement of travel, meals and travel-related expenses. 

7.2      Unaudited Operating & Capital Statement - December 2025

Council accepted the December 2025 Unaudited Operating and Capital Statements as presented.

7.3      2026 Council Conferences and Education Sessions

Council approved the attendance of Town Council at the following conferences and education opportunities in 2026: 

  • Two Legal Seminars (Reynolds Mirth/Brownlee) - total of five attendees 
  • The Human Infrastructure Session – two attendees 
  • Spring Municipal Leaders Caucus – two attendees 
  • Alberta Association of Police Governance Conference - two attendees 
  • Federation of Canadian Municipalities Annual Conference - seven attendees
  • Alberta Recreation and Parks Association Conference - two attendees 
  • Alberta Municipalities Convention - seven attendees 
  • Elected Officials Education Program courses  
  • Rural Municipalities of Alberta Fall Convention - three attendees

7.4      Ponoka Area Minor Football Association 2026 Sponsorship Request

Council approved a $900 Touchdown Package to the Ponoka Area Minor Football Association for the 2026 season, funded from the Council Sponsorship Budget.

10.      Correspondence Items

  • Mayor Ferguson sent another letter to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Sean Fraser on February 23 addressing the issues of prolific offenders and the impact on the Town of Ponoka, and the need for the Government of Canada to reform the criminal code.
  • Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Sean Fraser responded to Mayor Ferguson on February 24, with an explanation on how the introduction of Bill C-14 (Bail and Sentencing Reform Act) and Bill C-16 (Protecting Victims Act) will reform the criminal code.

11.1    Town of Ponoka Fire Statistics

Council accepted the Town of Ponoka Fire Statistics for January 2026 as presented.

12.1    Notice of Motion – Land Use Bylaw

Councillor Teri Underhill submitted a notice of motion to review the Land Use Bylaw at an upcoming Priorities and Initiatives Committee Meeting.

13.1    Closed Session

Council passed a motion to update the surplus lands list to reflect the appraised fair market value of the property on 5406, 55 Street to $54,000 and the south portion of 5015, 46 Avenue to $150,000.
