Ponoka Aquaplex Will Host Free Activities for National Drowning Prevention Week July 21-27

The Ponoka Aquaplex will host a variety of fun, free activities in recognition of National Drowning Prevention Week from July 21 to 27.

Over 400 Canadians die in preventable water-related incidents every year. National Drowning Prevention Week helps build skills and awareness about these incidents in an effort to prevent these types of tragedies.

The activities planned at the Ponoka Aquaplex (5315 46 Avenue) include:

  • A Free Swim and Free Outdoor Community Barbecue – On Thursday, July 18, the free swim will run from 1 to 4 p.m. The barbecue will run from 2 to 4 p.m. and will move indoors at the Aquaplex if it rains.
  • A daily ‘Swim to Survive’ skills challenge – From 1 to 4 p.m. each day from Monday to Friday (July 22 - 26). Participants who complete the challenge will receive a Lifesaving Society bracelet (while supplies last).
  • A daily Pool Scavenger Hunt during public swim – Participants can find items around the pool and be entered in a draw to win a prize.
