Ponoka Events and Activities

Family Day (Monday, February 17) in the Town of Ponoka was filled with many free activities for the whole family to enjoy, including a Skijoring event at the Calnash Ag Event Centre, swimming, skating, cross-country skiing, tobogganing and taking a stroll in the Battle River Valley.

The Town of Ponoka once again partnered with the Calnash Ag Event Centre to host a Family Day event brimming with free activities and winter fun for all ages. Attendees were able to:

  • Enjoy the thrill of skijoring, a unique winter sport where skiers are pulled by horses. Spectators were able to participate in skijoring by bringing their downhill skis or snowboards;
  • Go on a horse-drawn carriage ride;
  • Jump in a bouncy castle;
  • Warm up around a bonfire and enjoy some hot chocolate; and
  • The local Ponoka 4-H equine group was riding in the arena, highlighting their program and the skills they've developed through their activities.

Indoor and Outdoor Skating

Family skating at the ArenaFree public skating was hosted at the Ponoka Arena Complex on Family Day. The Town of Ponoka accepted voluntary donations of non-perishable food items for the Ponoka Food Bank.

Citizens also enjoy Family Day at:

  • The Outdoor Rink (ODR) next to the Ponoka Arena Complex; and

  • Lions Centennial Park (at Highway 2A and 54 Street): residents and visitors could experience the colourful light display and skate on the ice trail that winds below the hundreds of thousands of lights strung throughout the park.

A free public swim was hosted at the Ponoka Aquaplex, which was sponsored by FortisAlberta.

The Town of Ponoka accepted voluntary donations of non-perishable food items for the Ponoka Food Bank.

There were several other fun free activities for families, including:

  • Cross-country ski trails at the Ponoka Golf Club;

  • Tobogganing at the Tom Hamilton Memorial Hill;

  • Tobogganing in the Family Day Event at the Ponoka Golf Club; and

  • Taking a stroll along the walking trails in Ponoka’s Battle River Valley.

On Saturday, April 5, about 200 people came out and ran in the 10km, 5km and 1 km kids’ loop through the Battle River Valley trail system. The Battle River Run started and finished at the Baden Powell Adventure Centre/Scout Hall (3924, 46A Street Close).

The Town of Ponoka invited local seniors to celebrate Seniors’ Week (June 2 to 8) at the Ponoka Aquaplex on Wednesday, June 4.

Seniors were welcome to stop by for coffee, tea, and light snacks in a relaxed, social setting. The drop-in event ran from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Ponoka Aquaplex (5315 46 Avenue).

The event was free and no registration was required.

Seniors’ Week is celebrated across Alberta each June to honour and recognize the contributions of older adults in our communities. For more information about Seniors’ Week, please visit the Government of Alberta website at Alberta.ca/seniors-week.


Join us for the Town of Ponoka’s Spring Festival from 3 to 8 p.m. in the curling rink at the Ponoka Arena Complex (4410 - 54 Street). Please use the yellow doors on the south side of the main entrance at the Arena Complex.

Due to rain in the forecast, the event has been moved indoors.

This free event offers fun-filled activities and entertainment for the whole family including:

  • Bouncy houses;
  • Glitter tattoos;
  • Storytime in the park;
  • Food trucks;
  • Balloon animals; and
  • Much more! 

June is Recreation and Parks Month

The Spring Festival will also kick off Recreation and Parks Month in Ponoka, which is a nationwide initiative aimed at encouraging Canadians to get out and be active while enjoying the natural beauty of our parks.

Person playing disc golfThe Town of Ponoka and Ponoka Arts, Recreation and Culture Society (PARCS) are excited to announce the grand opening celebration of Ponoka’s new 18-hole disc golf course on Saturday, June 14. This event will run from 12 to 2 p.m. at Riverside Rotary Park (3712 45 Street).

The grand opening celebration will include:

  • A free barbecue;
  • Tips and tricks on how to play disc golf; 
  • A ribbon-cutting ceremony; and
  • Coffee with Council, where citizens can share input and ideas on the 2026 Town of Ponoka Budget.

The disc golf course will welcome all ages and skill levels. Disc golf is often described as a blend of traditional golf and frisbee. Players use flying discs to complete a course by aiming for chain baskets. Please click here to view the disc golf course map. 

Coffee with Council

Coffee with Council will also be held during the disc golf grand opening celebration. During this event, citizens can provide their thoughts and ideas on the 2026 Town of Ponoka Budget by filling out a Citizen Input Survey. 

The annual public consultation process on the Town Budget is an important part of the Town’s ongoing commitment to inviting public participation in Council decision-making processes. Inviting public input helps Town Council to make more informed and thoughtful decisions that reflect what residents value most.

Citizen input that is collected from the Citizen Input Survey and from public feedback received during Coffee with Council events will be summarized and presented to Town Council for careful review and consideration during the 2026 Budget deliberation process. Disc Golf Course Opens in Early June

The disc golf course will be open for public use starting in early June. The opening date will be announced on the Town of Ponoka website at Ponoka.ca and on social media (Facebook, X and Instagram) @TownofPonoka. Stay tuned for updates.

Family playing soccerThroughout the month of June, the Town of Ponoka is excited to celebrate Recreation and Parks Month, a provincewide initiative that promotes outdoor play, local parks and community connection through recreation.

This year’s theme is ‘get outside and play.’ The Town of Ponoka is inviting citizens to participate in a variety of activities throughout the month aimed at encouraging healthy, active lifestyles and exploring local parks and green spaces. This includes:

Week 1: June 1-7 – Your Favourite Park and Green Space

Citizens are encouraged to visit their favourite local park or green space and share their outdoor experience by taking a photo and posting it on social media for a chance to win a grand prize.

Week 2: June 8-14 – Celebrate Outdoors

Two community events will be held this week to bring the people together for some outdoor fun:

  • Spring Festival on Friday, June 13 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Lions Centennial Park. This free event offers fun-filled activities and entertainment for the whole family.
  • Disc Golf Grand Opening on Saturday, June 14 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Riverside Rotary Park. The grand opening celebration will include a free barbecue, tips and tricks on how to play disc golf, a ribbon cutting ceremony and Coffee with Council.

Week 3: June 15-21 – Try-It and Trails

This week promotes experiencing new recreation activities, including a variety of drop-in programming options at the Ponoka Arena Complex, as well as walking and biking in the Battle River Valley. 

Week 4: June 22-30 – Play in the Park

Families are encouraged to enjoy local playgrounds, parks, and green spaces. You're also invited to share a photo of your family enjoying one of these outdoor spaces on social media for a chance to win.

Enter to Win a Grand Prize

Simply post photos to social media of you participating in any of the various activities throughout the month, tag the Town of Ponoka @TownofPonoka, and use the hashtag #JRPMPonoka. You will then automatically be entered to win a one-month family recreation pass. The family recreation pass offers access to all drop-in programming at the Ponoka Aquaplex and Arena Complex.

A powwow showcaseAs part of National Indigenous History Month and in the spirit of reconciliation, the Town of Ponoka is excited to help facilitate the return of the Fourth Annual Tipi Village to Ponoka during Stampede Week on June 26 to 29.

The event is being hosted by Louis Bull Tribe with participation by members of the Ermineskin Cree Nation, Samson Cree Nation and Montana First Nation. Each day, the Tipi Village will run from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will feature the following:

  • A Grand Entry;
  • Greetings and speeches from elders and neighbouring First Nations;
  • A powwow show case at 3 p.m. daily;
  • Indigenous storytelling;
  • Indigenous artwork and culture; and
  • Tipi Village visitors can stroll through the tipis and talk with elders.

The Tipi Village will be set up in the ball diamonds area behind the Ponoka Arena Complex (4410 54 Street), directly across from the Stampede grounds, and will be open to the public (weather permitting).

Free Admission and Parking

There is no entry fee to attend the event and free parking will be available at the Ponoka Arena Complex.

Enjoy a cozy movie at the area with a family-friendly film. Bring a blanket and settle in for a fun community event. More details to come!

The annual ‘Fall Fest on 51st event will be on Friday, September 5, 2025.

Savour the flavours of fall at Fall Fest! Enjoy delicious offerings from local food vendors, live entertainment, and great company. 

The event will run along 51 Avenue (between 50 Street and 51 Street) and in the parking lot (on the south side of 51 Avenue).
