Ponoka Aquaplex Set to Reopen on October 14

Ponoka Aquaplex Set to Reopen October 14 The Ponoka Aquaplex is set to reopen after the Thanksgiving long weekend on Tuesday, October 14.

The facility is undergoing major improvements that will be completed over the coming days, including:

  • A complete renovation and modernization of the changerooms (new flooring, tiles, fixtures, vanities and freshly painted walls);
  • The installation of a new water filtration system and replacement of all filters that have reached the end of their lifecycle. The water filtration system controls water clarity and chemistry in the pools;
  • Deep cleaning of the main pool, deep tank, hot tub, wading pool, sauna and deck; and
  • Painting throughout the facility.

“These improvements will extend the life of the Ponoka Aquaplex and allow us to welcome back pool users to a newly refurbished facility that citizens can enjoy for years to come,” said Andrew Jones, Manager of Parks, Recreation and Facilities.

These facility improvements are part of the Town of Ponoka’s ongoing annual maintenance program at the Aquaplex. Over the past five years the program has included extensive renovations, including a complete resurfacing and refinishing of the pool deck, wading pool and hot tub; a new rooftop HVAC that regulates airflow, temperature and humidity; new cedar wall paneling, benches and flooring in the sauna; and renovations to the multi-purpose room for birthday parties and group functions. Investing in the Ponoka’s recreation facilities is a priority in the Town’s Strategic Plan.

While the improvements and maintenance are underway at the Ponoka Aquaplex, recreation passes for the Aquaplex will be honoured at the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre in Lacombe (5429 53 Street). Users will be required to present their Aquaplex passes at the facility.
