August 1, 2025
Work completed in the last week includes:
- Curb removals;
- Roadwork on 54 Street related to the road closure;
- Installation of pre-cast bases for new lighting along the corridor;
- Catch basins installed along the corridor;
- Saw cuts and curb removals for concrete repairs; and
- A new hydrant installed on 54 Street.
Work anticipated over the next week:
- Base work and road construction on 54 Street related to the road closure;
- Electrical drilling to install power cables for new lighting along the corridor; and
- Concrete installation throughout the corridor including curbs and entrances.
August 7, 2025
Work completed in the last week includes:
- Electrical work for streetlighting, including base installation, conduit and electrical drilling;
- Curbs poured at 54 Street and throughout the Highway 53 corridor; and
- Islands at 45 Avenue Crescent poured and completed.
Work anticipated over the next week:
- Continued concrete installation throughout the roadway;
- Continued electrical work for streetlights, and trenching to begin for tree lighting; and
- Safeguarding of existing trees in preparation for road construction.
August 14, 2025
Work completed in the last week includes:
- Base work for streetlights and trenching for power;
- Continued concrete work on curbs, gutters and wheelchair ramps; and
- Pedestrian flashers were installed at 45 Avenue Crescent.
Work anticipated over the next week:
- Continued electrical work and trenching for power;
- Continued base work and installation of street lights; and
- Continued concrete installation throughout the roadway.
August 25, 2025
Work completed in the last week includes:
- Installation of pedestrian flashers at 45 Avenue Crescent (at the crosswalk to the Stampede Campground);
- Light poles installed along the corridor;
- Electrical trenching began for lighting;
- Safeguarding of existing trees completed in advance of construction; and
- Concrete installation along the roadway completed.
Work anticipated over the next week:
- Continued electrical trenching and running of cables along both sides of the roadway and beneath the roadway; and
- Base work for new trails.
September 2, 2025
Work completed in the last week includes:
- Electrical trenching along both sides of the roadway and beneath the roadway continued; and
- Base work in preparation for construction of an expanded multi-use trail along the north side of Highway 53 began.
Work anticipated over the next week:
- Electrical trenching along both sides of the roadway and beneath the roadway will continue; and
- Ongoing base work in preparation for construction of an expanded multi-use trail along the north side of Highway 53 will continue.
September 10, 2025
Work completed in the last week includes:
Electrical trenching along both sides of the roadway and beneath the roadway; and
Base work continued in preparation for construction of an expanded multi-use trail along the north side of Highway 53.
Work anticipated over the next week:
Paving of Highway 53 between Highway 2A and 38 Street. Temporary parital lane closures will be in place until the work is completed.
September 18, 2025
Work completed in the last week includes:
- Electrical trenching and light pole installation; and
- Milling and paving of the roadway began.
Work anticipated over the next week includes:
- Completion of paving;
- Line painting;
- Continued electrical and trail base preparation work;
PLEASE NOTE: As part of the Highway 53 Corridor Improvement project, upgrades to the 46 Street intersection on Highway 53 will be completed in Spring 2026, including milling, paving, new signal lights and street lights.
These improvements at the 46 Street intersection will require some trenching and excavation to complete underground electrical work and utility relocates, which is why milling and paving of that intersection is scheduled for Spring 2026 rather than in 2025.
Traffic flow on Highway 53 will be maintained throughout the project with at least one lane of traffic open in both directions at all times. The speed limit is currently reduced to 50 km/h along the corridor.
October 3, 2025
Work completed in the last week includes:
- Trail base preparation work;
- Pouring of concrete pads for benches, waste receptacles and light columns;
- Continued electrical work; and
- Landscaping work to prepare for seeding of boulevards.
Work anticipated over the next week includes:
- Continued electrical work;
- Installation of trees and tree lighting;
- Continued grading of the boulevards; and
- Trail paving.
PLEASE NOTE: The trail connection to 46 Street will completed in the spring when 46 Street intersection upgrades are completed.
