Bylaws and Policies

Bylaws are laws created by the Town. They are enforced by Bylaw Officers or Development Officers. Bylaws in Alberta are generally created under the authority of the Municipal Government Act. To pass a bylaw, Council must give three readings (three separate approvals) at Council meetings.

Policies provide overarching standards for decision-making and operations within local government. They help an organization operate consistently. Policies are approved by Council.

Please Note: Online bylaws and policies are not legal versions and may not include recent amendments. Official copies of Town bylaws and policies can be obtained from Town Office at the Ponoka Civic Centre (#200, 5604 50 Street).
